The festival “The Field of Kulikovo” opens in Tula region

Some thousand participants from Russia and CIS countries will take part in the international military-historical festival "The Field of Kulikovo" that opens on Thursday, September, 19,  in  Tula region.
The festival is dedicated to the 633-rd anniversary of the Battle at the Field of Kulikovo. Military-historical clubs from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Vyborg, Novgorod, Pskov, Engels, Bryansk, Rybinsk, Saratov, Izhevsk, Penza, Samara, Cherepovets, Gomel (Belarus), Kiev, Belgorod-Dnestrovsk (Ukraine) and other cities participate in the event, the press-office of  the museum-reserve "The Field of Kulikovo" said to "Interfax" on Wednesday.

For four days the field of Kulikovo will be living by laws set in the Middle Ages. The festival participants will settle in their camp at Tatinskih fords on the bank of the river Don where the army of Dmitry Donskoy was passing over the river on the eve of battle.
One of the main goals of the event is to turn the festival camp into military medieval one on the bank of the river Don where the way of life and crafts of those times are revived as well as medieval techniques of warfare and use of weapons are mastered.
For the festival participants contests of historical reconstruction of armour, weapons and costumes, tournament of archers, military all-round competitions, tournament on foot, horse competitions, combat maneuvers and mass medieval battle - bugurt, contest of historical cuisine are prepared.
Alongside with a fair of medieval craftsmen master classes in carpentry skills, making of glass beads and casting, pottery and blacksmith crafts, making of rag dolls, stamping on fabrics and felting of nagovits will take place.

The re-enactors from Lipetsk club "Spear" will present medieval boats, a school of horse riding will be run, too.
At the same time for the festival participants the extensive programme of lectures and concerts is organized. At the field of Kulikovo military historians and archaeologists who study the era of the Battle at Kulikovo will take floor, the folk groups "Skolot" and “Teufelstanz” will perform.
On September 21, at the day of the 633-rd anniversary of the Battle at Kulikovo celebration warriors of Old Russia and Golden Horde on foot and on horses will recreate a scene from the Battle at Kulikovo for spectators with fights and mass clashes. The spectators will also be presented with a parade of medieval costumes and armour.
As "Interfax" reminds, the Battle at Kulikovo is the most important event in the history of this country. On September 8 (September 21 by newer calendar), 1380, at the field behind the rivers of Don and Nepryadva Russian troops have defended the opportunity to create an independent state. The victory of Russian troops over the Golden Horde has finally confirmed the authority of Moscow as the center of thea unified Russian state.
